I’m A Winner

I’ve never won a contest nor been picked randomly in a lottery drawing but recently I participated in a simple forum post over at CC2K and won a free book, 999: Twenty-nine Original Tales of Horror and Suspense, and a $15 gift card to Barnes & Noble I'm a winnerin their All Hallow’s Read Scary Book Giveaway. Now I can buy some digital books for my B&N Nook I got a few months back. I’m pretty excited about reading the analog book too.

My thanks to Beth Woodward and the gang over at CC2K for this fabulous prize. Go check out their site and participate in their forum.

Writer’s block no more

I don’t know what has happened to me but recently I got into the mood to attempt writing again. I finally finished a short story that I had been working on for the past year and now I am working on a screenplay. I hope this continues and I do not get distracted, I want to finish this screenplay.

I downloaded and installed an application for Mac called Montage that assist in writing. It has so many cool features for it that include templates for stage plays, film and television and different tools that help you shape the script that include story and scene outlines, character bios, and more. And, the best part about it is that it’s only $140; I’m using the 30 trial version now. Since I am enjoying it so much I will more than likely buy the product. Check me out…I sound like a commercial.

I’m trying to figure out where this motivation to write came from. Believe it or not, this actually occurs every few years or so for me. I’ve experienced this before, however, the phase doesn’t usually last. I believe this time around I can attribute this to many factors.

I’ve also been in a Stephen King phase in that recently I just purchased and started reading a few older books of his that I have not read yet. And, I guess, while reading his stories I realize that he does it so well that he makes it look easy. So, that could be one factor. Also, a friend of mine started a web site called New Bard’s Press in which anyone can publish a story to his site for the world to read…all for free. I have a few things published there and, I guess, seeing the community grow on the site can also be another factor in my motivation.

Whatever the case, or cases, may be, I hope it continues for a long time as it is still a skill that I really need to focus on more and improve as I really enjoy it.
